Renata Aparecida Felinto dos Santos é uma mulher afro-diaspórica, artista visual, pesquisadora e professora, mãe de Benedita Nzinga e Francisco Madiba. Nasceu em 1978, em São Paulo/SP, e vive entre São Paulo e Crato/CE. Doutora, Mestra e Bacharel em Artes Visuais pelo Instituto de Artes da UNESP, é também especialista em Curadoria e Educação em Museus de Arte pelo MAC/USP. Realizou estágio de pós-doutorado como artista residente no Spring 2023 do Center for Africana Studies da University of Pennsylvania (EUA).
Atua como Professora Adjunta da Universidade Regional do Cariri (URCA/CE), ministrando aulas na Licenciatura e no Mestrado Profissional em Artes. É líder do grupo de pesquisa NZINGA, reconhecido pelo CNPq. Coordenou o Núcleo de Educação do Museu Afro Brasil (2007-2010) e o Curso de Licenciatura em Artes Visuais da URCA por duas gestões. Atua há mais de 20 anos em artes visuais, sendo 10 deles dedicados à educação museal e institucional.
Foi curadora artística e do educativo da 15ª Bienal Naïfs do Brasil (Sesc Piracicaba), pela qual recebeu o Prêmio Miguel Arcanjo de Cultura (2021). Atuou como curadora adjunta do Instituto Oficina de Cerâmica Francisco Brennand, integrou a Associação Brasileira de Críticos de Arte (2021–2024) e o Comitê de Indicação do Prêmio PIPA (2021 e 2023).
Entre suas exposições individuais estão: “Miss Read” (HKW, Berlim, 2022), “Performar a Vida” (SENAC Scipião, 2021) e “As que me habitam” (CCSP, 2019). Participou de mostras coletivas como: “Dos Brasis” (2023–2024, SESC Belenzinho/SP e Quitandinha/RJ), “Encruzilhadas da Arte Afro-Brasileira” (2023–2024, CCBB SP e MG), “Empowerment” (Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, 2022), “Beethoven Moves” (Kunsthistorisches Museum, 2020), “12ª Bienal do Mercosul” (2020) e “Histórias Afro-Atlânticas” (MASP/Instituto Tomie Ohtake, 2018).
Recebeu os prêmios PIPA (2020), Select (2020) e o 25º Salão Anapolino (2020). Sua produção artística e intelectual foca a identidade negra feminina, os deslocamentos, conexões afro-diaspóricas e formas não hegemônicas de registro, reconhecimento e difusão de narrativas visuais.

Renata Aparecida Felinto dos Santos is an Afro-diasporic woman, visual artist, researcher, and educator, mother of Benedita Nzinga and Francisco Madiba. Born in 1978 in São Paulo, Brazil, she lives and works between São Paulo and Crato. She holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Visual Arts from UNESP’s Institute of Arts, and a specialization in Curatorship and Museum Education from MAC/USP. In 2023, she completed a postdoctoral residency at the Center for Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania (USA).
She is an Adjunct Professor at the Regional University of Cariri (URCA/CE), teaching in both the Licentiate and the Professional Master’s Program in Visual Arts. She leads the NZINGA research group, recognized by CNPq. She coordinated the Education Department at the Afro-Brazil Museum (2007-2010) and served two terms as Head of the Visual Arts Licentiate Program at URCA. With over 20 years of experience in visual arts, 10 of them in museum education, she bridges academia, art, and activism.
Felinto curated the artistic and educational programs of the 15th Naïfs do Brasil Biennial (Sesc Piracicaba), earning the Miguel Arcanjo de Cultura Prize (2021). She was Associate Curator at the Francisco Brennand Ceramics Institute, and a member of the Brazilian Association of Art Critics (2021–2024) and the PIPA Prize Nominating Committee (2021 and 2023).
Her solo exhibitions include “Miss Read” (HKW, Berlin, 2022), “Performar a Vida” (SENAC Scipião, 2021), and “As que me habitam” (CCSP, 2019). Group exhibitions include “Dos Brasis” (2023–2024, SESC Belenzinho/SP and Quitandinha/RJ), “Afro-Brazilian Art Crossroads” (2023–2024, CCBB SP and MG), “Empowerment” (Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, 2022), “Beethoven Moves” (Kunsthistorisches Museum, 2020), “12th Mercosur Biennial” (2020), and “Afro-Atlantic Histories” (MASP/Instituto Tomie Ohtake, 2018).
She received the PIPA Prize (2020), Select Award (2020), and 25th Anapolino Salon Prize (2020). Her work engages Black female identity, Afro-diasporic displacements and connections, and non-hegemonic visual narratives through artistic and academic practices.
